This is the final piece of our three part guide on wearing a suit. The first part was all about the fit of a suit and how to ensure your suit fits you perfectly. The second part was about the rules related to buttoning a suit and also how to use a tie clip. This final part will be about how to get creative with a pocket square.

I will be taking you through five different ways to fold a pocket square. The folds will get a little bit trickier as we progress through, but the trickier the fold, the better it will look! Before we begin, this article will be referring to some shapes which your pocket square should represent when folded. The image below should help you to understand what I mean.

1. One-Point Fold

This is the simplest fold and very common, however it’s still a good place to start. Although it’s simple, it still looks good and can be a great option if you don’t want to take all the attention away from other parts of your outfit.

  • Lay your pocket square flat in the shape of a diamond.
  • Bring the bottom point of the diamond to the top point, essentially folding the pocket square in half to create a triangle.
  • Fold the left corner of your triangle towards the right and the right corner towards the left to create the house shape.
  • Fold the bottom towards the top about half way.

2. Two-Point Fold

  • Lay your pocket square flat in the shape of a diamond.
  • Bring the bottom point of the diamond towards the top point but don’t make a triangle, ensure the point is to the left of the top point so you have two points in total.
  • Fold the left corner of your triangle towards the right and the right corner towards the left to create the house shape but with two points.
  • Fold the bottom towards the top about half way.

3. Four-Point Fold

  • Lay your pocket square flat in the shape of a diamond.
  • As with the two point fold, bring the bottom point of the diamond towards the top point but don’t make a triangle, ensure the point is to the left of the top point so you have two points in total.
  • Bring the left corner of the triangle across so it is forms a point on the right hand side of the triangle, you should have three points in total at this point.
  • Do the same with the right corner, bring it across to the left hand side of the triangle to form four points.
  • Fold in excess material on the sides and slide into your pocket.

4. Winged Puff Fold

  • Lay your pocket square flat in the shape of a diamond.
  • Fold in half to create an upside down triangle.
  • Fold each point of the triangle towards the bottom point to create a small diamond shape.
  • Fold the bottom and two side points inwards to create the house shape.

5. The Dunaway Fold

  • Lay your pocket square flat in the shape of a diamond.

  • Pick the pocket square up from the middle creating to wings on either side of the pocket square.

  • Keep hold of the pocket square, pull the pocket square into a rocket type shape.

  • Flip the pocket square upside down and fold the bottom half of the pocket square up and slide it into your pocket.

You now have five ways you can fold your pocket square to add to any other accessories you wear with your suit. Some of these folds are more complex than the others but they all look great nonetheless. This three part guide should now give you enough background information to make sure you always look dapper in a suit!
