You want to get fit. But, going to the gym and repeating the same exercises every day can be pretty monotonous. It gets tiring to such an extent that you drop it altogether.
Even though joining a gym is a good way to stay fit, know that it’s not the ONLY way. There are many fun exercises other than lifting weights and running on the treadmill. You can enjoy doing a variety of workouts at home or while doing your regular chores which would give you great results and put a smile on your face.
Here are some activities you can do to stay fit without hitting the gym
1. Take the stairs
These days most people live in single-story homes and want to eliminate stair climbing from their lives. Does it really make a difference if you take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator? Stairs shouldn’t be used only for emergencies. It challenges more muscles than walking because you use your gluteus maximus and hamstrings.
Also, you burn twice the calories when you carry grocery bags or a pot of water while climbing stairs. If you have joint and knee problems, do not attempt this unless you have consulted your doctor.
2. Commercial break workout

3. Take your dog for a walk
For people who lack the motivation to workout, a personal trainer is the best option. However, we know that they come with a price. There are also many expensive fitness programs out there that claim to help you lose weight. But, an excellent way to stay fit while saving money is taking your dog for a walk.
Including your dog in your exercise routine will make exercising more fun. Plus it contributes to building a stronger bond between your dog and you. But, make sure you walk at an active pace to get your heartbeat up.
4. Cycling
One of the reasons many people opt out of going to the gym is because they can’t be regular. But, cycling is a great workout that can fit into anyone’s schedule. No matter what time you get off, you can still go for a ride because this doesn’t need any particular equipment, unlike a gym.
But, sometimes you will be too drained from work or your workplace may not be within cycling distance. In these cases, you can still use your cycle to go grocery shopping or to visit a friend who lives nearby.
5. Play a game
If you can manage to get a few people together twice a week, then you can organize a basketball or tennis game. Playing a game is fun, and you won’t feel like you are exercising. It doesn’t necessarily have to be basketball or tennis. If you live next to the beach, you could take a Frisbee or beach ball along and have a friendly match. Playing a group sport will also help you be a better team player.
6. Dancing
Dancing is one of the best forms of exercise because it includes both aerobic and anaerobic movements. Plus unlike working out in the gym, you don’t do the same routine every day. Once you learn the basics, you can come up with your own routines. Plus there are different styles of dance like ballet, ballroom, hip-hop and jazz.
Another benefit of dancing is that it improves flexibility. It stretches your body in ways that you would never have imagined. Dancing is a productive hobby and can be a great creative outlet.
