Nothing should be more important than keeping your home clean and healthy. A healthy environment in your home will contribute to your wellbeing in general. While the majority of people know that the cleanliness of their home plays an important role in their overall health, we often neglect our living space on account of long working hours and a high level of stress. It does not have to be that way and it takes only skillful time management and organization to firmly hold the reins of your home.

1. Remove the clutter and its sources

Some people tend to attach emotionally to things. They are known as hoarders. The problem with such a habit is that it can clutter your home and reduce its functionality. The source of the hoarding habit often lies in the psychological condition of a hoarder. If you are obsessed with keeping items that you do not use anymore, you should try to remove them in small, gradual steps. Try to get rid of only a few things that prevent a free flow of energy in your home and you will see your home from a completely different perspective. Nevertheless, if you cannot say goodbye to your old things, you might be suffering from a serious compulsive disorder, which requires a proper treatment.

2. Exterminate the toxins

Toxins like to hide and gather in dust. Home owners who fail to dust their homes regularly expose themselves, as well as their children to higher risks of serious cardiorespiratory diseases. In order to reduce such risks, you should vacuum your home at least twice a week. Also, cleaning it with a wet mop should also be done at least two times in seven days. By removing the dust, you remove all the aggressive microorganisms that might get inside your body and cause health havoc. Do not forget cleaning the bookshelves and the books on them. There are loads of dust inside your home libraries.

In addition, you should also control the air quality in your home. No matter how much you dust and clean, some homes are simply damp and moldy. Use air purifiers if you notice that your home is often filled with humid and stale air.

3. Control your tap water

You can rarely hear the authorities saying that water from water supplying systems should not be drunk. However, some harmful chemicals, such as mercury and pesticides, can often be found in tap water. Even the WHO has published a study on the negative effects that mercury in drinking water can have on people’s health.

What every homeowner can do to improve the quality of water they drink is to filter the tap water from the city supply system. Today there is a wide scope of water filter that can make tap water as fresh as spring water. Furthermore, you could also give up on using tap water completely and go for bottled water. Nonetheless, bottled water should also be used with a pinch of salt, since it can also contain some harmful chemicals.

4. Replace cans with fresh organic food

Clean water and fresh food will largely improve your health condition. Although canned food is often used in many households, mostly due to its durability, it should be avoided in every health-craving home. First of all, canned food is often produced in distant parts of the world. It means that cans have to be added some chemicals to make the food last longer, such as the infamous bisphenol-A (BPA). Secondly, tuna and other fish are among the most frequent canned products. If we know that fish often contain a high level of mercury, it is clear that such products should not be consumed too often.

Therefore, you should change your eating habits to turn your home into a healthy place where fresh fruit and vegetables prevail. If your work tasks keep you out of home on work days, you can always prepare healthy meals in advance and put them into the freezer. Although some of their beneficial features will be reduced, it is still better than eating food from cans and tins.

5. Take care of furniture

Furniture items can often host terrible dust mites and other insects. To get rid of such organisms, you should have your sofas, beds and armchairs deep-cleaned at least once in three months. When talking about chairs, make sure that you and your children use ergonomic chairs that provide lumbar support. Nowadays both kids and their parents spend a lot of time at the computer. If they use old wooden chairs, their back could get badly damaged. In addition, when it comes to wooden furniture, it is good to know that most wooden items made before 2005 probably contain arsenic. What about the living room? You probably spend your quality family time watching something on the TV. If you think it’s necessary to redo your living room, make sure you know what material was used in your sofas and what are the maintenance musts.

You can never be too cautious when it comes to keeping your home organized and healthy. Stop hoarding and clean it as often as you can and keep everything in order. If there is no clutter, you will be more relaxed. Finally, a clean and healthy environment in your home will accommodate happy and healthy people.
